Apartments are more expensive if you're staying somewhere less than a week, but are more reasonable if there are a bunch of you! My son & I will be in Italy in Oct. We booked our extremely reasonable Florence apt on VRBO.com on rec. from someone on the boards. The owner has been very friendly! VRBO is very reliable, too. We're going to stay at the Hotel Serenissima Venice; it's a 2-star hotel 2 blocks from St Mark's sq, with a buffet breakfast. Since we'll only be there 3 nights, it was less expensive than an apartment, with a very reasonable twin room and very good reviews. We're spending 5 days in the CT to clear our heads of museums & art before heading to Paris, so we wanted to stay in one of the smaller towns. We booked our Manorola, CT apt through Arbaspaa, a site run by people in the CT. Even though we are getting there at the start of their low season, it is the most expensive one I rented since it is less than a week, but the view looks like it will be worth it. Check it out: Appartamento Castello Via Rollandi 234 (Manarola) Good luck!
