Recommendations for Amalfi

What do you folks think are our best ideas for sightseeing and things to do in Amalfi? We have a several days there. There will be 4 of us and we're completely flexible.

Thanks!

Visit other cities on the coast. I don't think Amalfi is worth 4 days but then again if you have a lot of time and/or have seen the places below...

Sorrento is a much better place to stay because its convenience not only to the Amalfi coast cities but Naples, Pompeii, Herculeum and Capri.

Totally disagree - lots to do and see in and around Amalfi!! 4 days is nothing (even without the beach)...check our the other Aamalfi Coast towns...Positano, Ravello - and some of the "less touristed ones"! get on the bus and get off wherever you like! Maybe take the boast instead of the bus if the weather is nice. Daytrip to Naples, Salerno, Sorrento, Capri, Pompeii, Ercolano, Paestum, Caserta, etc....or even go further South for a day to the Cliento...don't think you will thoughh - 4 days will be filled easily.

Thanks so much for the replies.

Time to give something back..

We did, in fact, stay in Amalfi. What a wonderful little town. The genuine friendliness and hospitality of the locals was unforgettable. We all love to cook and shopped at the mercados and vegetable market every day, then cooked dinner Italiano in our apartment.

We had a great spot on the western tip of Amalfi town, directly across from the beach. I can send pictures or more info, if anyone is interested. Had a few minor problems with the stove and water heater in our unit, but nothing to trash anyone about. The problems were probably more due to a language barrier than anything else. Our hosts tripped over themselves to be helpful and accomodating.

As the week went on and the more we traveled around, we began to just love hanging around Amalfi, finding it to be extremely pleasant and relaxing.

As for seeing the surrounding areas, we daytripped EVERYWHERE we could. The buses are a great experience in themselves up and down the mountainous coast. We made some short videos that are a blast to watch as we were winding around throught the mountains.

We also took the ferry to Positano and Ravello, and the views of the coastline along the way and as you approach the docks are breathtaking. We wanted to take the ferry to Capri, but it is dependent upon weather and time of year.

Pompeii is something you don't want to miss if you're within striking distance. What amazed us from the beginning was the shear size of the city (and, oh yes, it is a city). The proximity to Vesuvius is somewhat haunting, although the view is still quite panoramic.

We had a great time. Hope you do, too.
