My husband and I are excited to be planning another trip to Europe in September! We plan to stay a week in Tuscany, a week in Slovenia, and a week in Paris. We will have a car in Italy and Slovenia.
We have stayed at Cretaiole before and, unfortunately, the rooms for 2 are already booked for September. We love the
Val d'Orcia area and would love to stay there again. We would like an agriturismo and a room/apartment with a kitchen.
We will definitely be looking at Rick's recommendations, but are hoping you will share personal experiences of your favorite places to stay.
Castiglione d'Orcis is one of the sweetest little towns we've stayed in.
It's like living on a movie set. Sitting on the balcony having coffee in the morning is something everyone should see once.
First the street sweepers, yes with brooms, though they do use blowers too. Then the kids and moms on the way to the school bus stop, followed by the shopkeepers. The cafe on the square opens and everyone stops for a cup or chat.
This place is enchanting.
Here you have the charm of a small hilltop village plus easy access to the whole Val d'Orcia.
We stayed here on the square.

Reviews are unanimous, great people, perfect spot. This place was heaven for us.
We stayed there 6 nights this summer.
Close to San Quirico D’Orcia and Buonconvento
I once looked into a village home rental from the Cretaiole people but the cost was way out of my reach. In Europe we've always rented in or very close to a village or small town. Our favourite rental is no longer available but we did spend a wonderful time at this place. Lovely owners, a small olive grove, they press their own grapes, about a 15 minute uphill walk to the edge of the Montepulciano town walls- all downhill on the way back. We rented 'La Cascina', it had a nice, private terrace.
Thank you so much for the recommendations! We will definitely research these suggestions.
