Recommendations for a hotel near Rome’s Fuimicino airport

Hello,
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, cheap hotel near the Fuimicino/Rome airport? We are taking the train from Florence the night before because our flight from Rome leaves very early the next morning. We are looking for a place that is near the airport, near the train station and not too fancy, since it’s just a place to sleep for the night. We will be traveling the end of September.
Thanks in advance!!

Hilton Rome Airport is right next to FCO and has pedestrian access to the terminal

We are looking for a place that is near the airport, near the train station
Or did you want somewhere near train station in Rome?

Flight very early the next morning? Sleep at the airport Hilton. That's what we did for our early flight and we were very happy.

Except that it will not be cheap. You cannot get both -- cheap and close to airport.

We always stay at Hilton FCO. You could walk to terminal if you wanted. We drop off rental cars and walk to hotel. There are a couple of restaurants for dinner, breakfast. . A US business hotel.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. We looked at the Hilton and it’s pretty pricey. We’ll look at the Hotel Tiber and probably choose one or the other. Thank you!!

Last October I stayed at the Hello Sky Air Rooms and Lounge. Cheaper than the Hilton, kind of cool. My single was small but well-supplied, and the bathroom was a blue tiled wonder. It's right in the airport, too, and I just walked to the terminal to catch my early flight.

Ahh, these are weird times, one thing to consider is when you will be taking your covid test for return, in Florence? At FCO? Monitored Self Test? The big question on the forum right now, is what happens if you test positive. You of course would need to go into immediate quarantine, and most assume, at the hotel you are at, or private driver to some location.

Long winded way of saying, the Hilton is very convenient, but a bit of a splurge, if your budget can't handle 10 nights of cost, plus room service, you might look elsewhere. Of course, I have seen no reports of anyone on here, or good recent reports of others, who have tested positive in Italy and what happens. However, some worst case contingency should be part of your plan.

As you are traveling from Florence to FCO, I would get your COVID test at the train station in Florence before boarding your train. Apparently, the Italian Red Cross has walkup testing facilities at most of the major train stations. Hopefully in September they will still be in operation.

Ahh- Good point Paul, we should factor in worse case scenario into the budget!

Ed- thanks for the suggestion about getting tested at the Florence train station. That is next on my list to research! The train station would be really convenient! Since September is a busy time in Italy, I hope they are still offering the testing.

Another consideration: If you stay at a hotel where you take a shuttle to the airport, be sure that the shuttle will run early enough to take you to the airport at the time you need to go. I have had the experience of shuttles only beginning service at 6:00 (not in Rome) and that might not be early enough.

This is another advantage of the Hilton. You just walk to the terminal. I stayed there and was glad I did.

Edit: I just checked the link for the Hotel Tiber. Under travelers’ questions, the hotel (in a very recent post) states that their shuttle begins at 6:00. They can arrange for a taxi beginning at 5:00 - cost 35 euros.

If you choose a hotel other than the Hilton, you need to factor in the cost of a taxi to get from the station to the hotel the day of arrival and the cost of a taxi (or shuttle) from the hotel to the airport in the morning. I can tell you that a taxi from the airport to anywhere nearby, no matter how close, is over €30 (or 50€ if all the way in the city of Rome). Once you have your figures at hand, you can make better comparison of prices.

Just how early is your flight? Most direct flights to the US don't start until late morning. If it is a local flight connecting to another city for the flight home, then it can be early.

Our flight leaves at 10:45am from Rome to DFW. We figure that we want to get there around 7:30am. So, staying near the airport is the most practical for us

Oh!
Heck
We have a 9:25 departure and will just stay where we are in Trastevere
We’ll take a cab at 5ish and figure we’ll be there in plenty of time
Cab ride is less than an hour especially early am
Fixed rate 48 euros

You might find it more affordable and enjoyable to stay right near Termini and spend your last nite in Rome
You can take a cab or Leonardo Express ( I think 14 euros person?) from Termini

The last time I flew out of Rome in 2017 I booked an AirBNB for the night in Ostia and cut a deal with the proprietor to run me over to the correct terminal for my flight home to JFK. It was very efficient. To get to Ostia you can take the Metro toward I think Piramide and then pick up a commuter train the rest of the way. Or you can take a taxi and spend more. Easy to flag taxis any time outside Termini. I suppose Uber also serves Rome nowadays.
