3 couples flying into Venice in April the am of a Saturday and training out the next day. We would like someplace in the mix of it all since we only have 1 night to soak in Venice and a place less expensive (understanding Venice is not cheap). A couple of places we have checked require a 2 night minimum.
That's so sad that you can only spend one night in that beautiful city. Have you tried Pensione Guerrato? It's our favorite and a Rick Steves favorite. I think they let you do one-night stays. You can also check booking.com and venere.com, both of which allow you to plug in your dates and look only at the places that are available. FWIW, you've got plenty of time to find someplace for April.
I would also recommend Pensione Guerrato. It isn't cheap, but it is well priced compared to many places in Venice.
If you don't mind a convent and a curfew, I stayed at a great one, directly across the Grand Canal from San Marco, about 100 feet from Santa Maria della Salute, for 50E (including breakfast) last September . Their e-mail address is [email protected]. However, please be prepared: No English is spoken, so you need some flexibility, and a sense of humor doesn't hurt.
Thank you for the suggestions. Pensione Guerrato was fully booked and I don't know if everyone going would feel comfortable staying with nuns. Any other ideas?
Your best option is to use a website like Venere.com or booking.com like Michael suggested to find places with availability for one night on your date. You can limit the search by price range and maybe location too. Once you have identified places that fit, you csn check out their websites and also ask for more information here. People can keep suggesting their favorites but they may well be booked or outside your price range so that becomes a futile exercise.
We stayed at Hotel Al Piave in June - really enjoyed it. Close to San Marco and vaporetto, but quiet.
Good luck - we were there 4 nights and wished we had more - I can't imagine having only one night....
Hotel bel Sito in Venice is inexpensive by Venetian standards, very close to St. Marks, small, charming, and on a little piazza. Google it, and see what kind of deal they'll give you. Rooms are small, and 5 -6 years ago it was less than EU100 off season, but they've remodeled and raised prices. They have retained their charm, and of course the location is the same. I think you'll enjoy it, and this early you should be able to get three doubles.
Try Alloggi Alla Scala. Great location (in the courtyard of the Bovolo) and one of the cheaper ones around. I stay there occasionally, they will do a one night stay if they have room.
In the busy season, you will often run into the 2-night minimum stay. You might check into the annex at the Hotel Messner. The Hotel Messner is in the RS book. They own a separate annex about a 100 feet away and on a small canal. We were able to stay one night there as we awaited the grand opening of the Hilton Molino Stukey. It was small but very quiet and clean. Nice breakfast in the main hotel.
