Recommendations between two hotels in Vernazza

I actually have two reservations in Vernazza in August for 3 nights. One at Albergo Barbara for 2 people and one at Gianni Franzi for 4 people in 2 rooms. I made the second reservation thinking that two friends might join us on the trip. I never even heard back from the proprietor at Albergo Barbara regarding a second room even though I gave my credit card # for the first night, so in a crunch, I started looking around for a place that could accommodate 4. Now that I have to cancel one reservation, any recommendations about which I should keep? I want to cancel one reservation asap since I know I won't need it, and maybe one of you who are travelling soon will get the room. Any recommendations?

I have some personal experience staying in Vernazza. The room I stayed in at Gianni Franzi involved 100 steep steps up the hillside. Some view is possible from up there. Albergo Barbara, where I haven't stayed, is located on the waterfront and is a tall building. As far as I know it has no elevator and some rooms require climbing several flights of stairs. Some of the rooms probably have great views. I would probably choose Albergo Barbara because I have bad knees and will avoid steps whenever possible.

Thanks, Swan, that is helpful. I anticipated many steps no matter where I go in the area, however, my knee does flare once in a while from a hiking injury many years ago in Germany, so that may factor in to the choice. Any other comments and perspectives regarding the two are appreciated.

Hi Heidi,
My wife and I and our two daughters stayed at Albergo Barbara last August for two nights. It is right on the square overlooking the harbor. The view from the bedroom was lovely. But as the other writer confirmed, no elevator. It's about five or six flights of stairs. So if someone forgot the sunblock, it was a climb to retrieve it. Other than that, the accommodations were terrific. No breakfast is provided.
Hope that helps,
Don
