Recommendation on Seeing Amalfi Coast from Ferry

Hi,
We will be staying in Positano 3 nights. I read something sometime back and can't remember exactly, about the best way to see the amalfi coast from the water. I think it said to try to go to Salerno from Positano in bus or something, and then catch a ferry from Salerno to Positano to see great views of the coast. Does that sound about right or any specific recommendations?
thanks

Great plan. Just be aware the boats don't operate with rough seas (and maybe not at all in winter).
Just choose the right day to do this.

You need 2 buses to Salerno. The first bus goes as far as Amalfi. Then you take a second bus from Amalfi to Salerno.

When we stayed in Positano, we rode the bus to Amalfi and Ravello. Then we took the ferry from Amalfi back to Positano.

Absolutely breathtaking scenery from the water versus the bus !

If for some reason you do not take the ferry. In season only, there is a beach club that runs a free boat ride to their outdoor restaurant...look for the boat with the RED fish you get a 15 minute ride along the coast of Positano and a great day at the beach with good food and it is NOT a rip off, well as long as you don't get a whole fish...ask the price before! :) The boat runs about every 1/2 hour..ask at your hotel and they will book a spot for you in high season.

I would take the ferry to Salerno, and take the bus back. The sun will not affect your views as much this way.
Even if the ferry is not running from Positano, rough water port, it may be running from Amalfi.

Ferry and bus schedules here.
