Recommendation: Guided Tour/Excursion of Pompeii/Herculaneum from Positano

I'm looking for a day-long shared/group guided tour of Herculaneum and Pompeii with pickup and drop off in Positano. We priced out for a private driver and guide and were seeing if we can do it cheaper as we don't mind going in a group. I found the a couple of bus tours that do these daily excursions but they only seem to operate on Sunday. Can anyone recommend one that operates on weekdays? Thanks!

We did a private car and driver to exactly what you are doing. There we eight of us so it was cost effective. It was also very, very convenient.

I had the same experience as you; I couldn't find any shared group tours for days other than Sunday so we used a private guide and driver for a tour of Herculaneum & Pompeii. The driver picked us up and delivered us back to Sorrento. We toured Herculaneum in the morning, then enjoyed a wonderful lunch at a winery at the base of Vesuvius and then toured Pompeii in the afternoon. Our guide was wonderful (and spoke perfect English) and he made both sites come alive and he had a great sense of humor as well. I was glad we saw Herc. first as it helped us to visualize Pompeii better. We used www.tourspompei.com (Sasha was our guide & his brother Gianluca was our driver). Both were top notch and although it was an expensive day, it was well worth it because we saw/did more than would have been possible on our own. Pompeii is overwhelmingly large and I would not have enjoyed trying to navigate around the site and reading from a guide book. It was much more enjoyable to tour the site with Sasha.

Hi all, new member to the forum. Today I booked the day trip Sheron recommended (Ercolano, winery lunch, Pompei) starting and ending at our hotel in Positano in a few weeks. Thanks for asking, yi, and thank you for the tip, Sheron!

Several years ago we were in Sorrento and wanted to see Pompeii and climb Mt Vesuvio....we found a travel agency in town that sold day trip to these sights. BEST decision ever. It was a group excursion, the guide was certified, the bus was air conditioned and we had those radio set ear pieces so we could wander away from the group, still hear the guide and ask questions. (only in Pompeii)

We started in the town square and they dropped us off there as well.

So, my recommendation would be to check into some travel agencies when you are in town, should you NOT find something before hand and see what they might offer in the way of day trips to the sights you want to see.
