We were planning to rent a car in Florence and drive to Siena to stay for 2 nights. We were just told that even if you are told by the car rental company that you're getting an automatic, you probably won't. So since we don't know how to drive a standard, we'd like to book a tour of the Tuscany while staying in Siena. Any suggestions?
What do you mean or what with a tour of "the Tuscany." Tuscany is a large rural, hilly area with lots of grape vines and olive trees and dotted with a lot of small communities so I am not sure what you would want from a tour. I am sure you could hire a taxi to driver you for a couple of hours through the country side. A little clarity, please.
You are correct. You can request an automatic but it is a dice roll. It is just a question of what is available in the car pool.
The original plan was to pick up a rental car in Florence and drive to Siena, where we have reservations to stay 2 nights. We planned to explore Siena and drive to San Gimignano, the Chianti area, and Montepulciano.
All of those locations can be reach via public transit - mostly bus. And the schedules are not the most convenience but it can be done with a little flexibility on your part.
