Recommend Tour Company for Day Trip to Amalfi

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a tour company for a day trip to Amalfi? Some companies combine the day trip with Pompeii, but for now, we only want an Amalfi experience. Thanks.

I'm not really a fan of day trips to the Amalfi from Rome (which is where I assume, from previous posts, you'll be basing) due to the distance. It's really an area to save for another trip/more time to explore properly. That said, you might look at this tour:

Walks of Italy gets very high marks from many, many RS posters who've taken any number of their tours so it's a "quality" outfit. This one is also a small group, and uses high-speed trains versus coaches or mini-vans to cover a big chunk of the distance between Rome and the Coast, thus saving a significant amount of time in transit.

You do NOT want to book any tour which is by road only: you can spend 4 hours getting there and 4 hours coming back, not to mention the time spent in a vehicle from location-to-location along the coast.

I've not done this tour myself but I'm hoping another forum poster who has can chime in.
One caveat: bad weather/rain could cause an alteration in the published plan due to inability of a boat to manage the Positano dock.

We stayed in Sorrento and took a lovely day trip to the Amalfi coast. We stopped at several towns along the way. The tour was only 6 people and a fabulous guide. 3 towns were visited. Check in Sorrento for the company

Heading to Amalfi Coast from Rome, day trip, end of March. We're using Lovely Amalfi Coast Tours, they receive excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and I have found the company to reply promptly to my emails. I'm sure they can customize a tour to your liking. We have a 7:35 train out of Roma Termini, gets in to Naples (Napoli Centrale) at 8:45 where the driver/guide will pick us up. We will be driven to Stabiae where we will meet up with a licensed guide and tour Stabiae. The driver/guide will then pick us up and we will make stops in Positano and Sorrento and will return us to the train station in Naples for our 18:38 train back to Rome. Tour is a total of 9 hours, driver/guide, licensed guide for 2 hours in Stabiae: 520.00 euro cash for 5 people. IMHO, a 70 minute train ride is not at all too far for a day trip. This is my first time to Italy.

No, the 70-minute train ride is fine but Naples is still some distance from Amalfi Coast. It's that additional time to get there + get around by vehicle - the roads are twisty and can be very congested and slow during high season - that makes for a long day. You will have some advantage going in March before the area gets really busy but it's unclear when the OP is traveling.

That said, people do it but it's too long a day in transport for me personally. That the WOI tour involves train, small bus AND boat, weather permitting, nicely breaks up that transport piece, IMHO. No right or wrong; just up to individual preference.

Just wanted to bump this post, in case anyone spots it and can comment on the Walks of Italy tour that was referenced in the replies. My husband REALLY wants to see the Amalfi coast and we just couldn't fit the days into our itinerary to spend time there.... but would consider sacrificing a day in Rome for this, as it is so high on his list. Would love any input. I've booked a couple other WOI tours for our upcoming trip, so I am comfortable with them as a tour company.

I've never read a bad review of any of WOI tours. If the tour they offer is not quite what you want you might try contacting this company. I just booked some transfers with them last night - and I see that Giovanni does offer customized tours. No idea what your budget is or what it would cost but it could be an option.
I'm thinking if you take train to Naples or Salerno early am- meet the guide there might work.

The company gets rave reviews on TA and there is 1 mention on this forum- also rave review.
