recommend staying in Vernazza Cinque Terre

I will be visiting Cinque Terra July 12 for 3 days. I have a reservation in Vernazza, and would like to stay in one of the smaller villages. Does anyone know if Vernazza is still in bad shape since the floods. I did watch Rick's video from his April visit, and read his updated entry. Any recommendations for one of the other villages. I do not want to stay in Montorossa.

penny, I'm not entirely clear on your question. As you already have a reservation in Vernazza, are you planning to cancel that and stay elsewhere? Many of the lodgings and restaurants have re-opened in Vernazza, and some normalcy has returned to the town. However, construction and rebuilding are still ongoing. You may find it helpful to have a look at some of the more current photos on the Vernazza Website. For another glimpse of Vernazza, have a look at This Video (which is a Trailer for a full-length movie which will hopefully be released soon). View in full screen if possible. One other point to consider is that mid-July will be PEAK season in the Cinque Terre, so if you already have a booking, it would probably be a good idea to hang onto it. It could be difficult finding something else! Just curious, what is the aversion to staying in Monterosso? I stayed there last year and really enjoyed it. Happy travels!

We just returned from the area. While Vernazza is rebuilding, most of the shops in the main section of town are still closed and don't look like they will be open anytime soon. Several of the restaurants in the piazza and the harbor area have reopened. I would stay in one of the other towns and then make a visit or 2 to Vernanzza.

We actually stayed in Corniglia - the smallest I believe...in 08, and are staying there again when we return this year...the only caveat...you have to be in good shape, or DON'T miss the shuttle bus up the hill - there is either a really steep hill or lots of stairs, which you wouldn't want to do with lots of luggage - but it was very quiet and right in the middle with amazing views...we used arbaspaa.com for our accom.
