Recommend a Private Guide in Calabria?

Ciao from Chicago! Can anyone recommend a private guide operating in Calabria for a day tour with a family of 10? In short, we need transport via van and an Italian-English speaking guide to escort our family from either Paola or Cosenza to the family home village of Mongrassano in the mountains...and then perhaps lunch at a farm or winery on our return drive back to our lodging. Grazie mille.

Cheryl Moore is a transplanted Texan who does all sorts of travel guiding with her Italian husband. You can reach her through http://my-bellavita.com. I bet she can help you, but if not, she'll know who can!

Autocorrect changed her first name! It's Cherrye, not Cheryl.

I was going to suggest Cherrye, too! She is a transplanted Texan who really knows the area, and believe it or not her specialty is family heritage tours! Jan B

I can highly recommend Cherrye Moore (my-bellavita.com) as a tour guide in Calabria. Ditto for Tania Pascuzzi of In Italy Tours (initalytours.com). They teamed up last year (2011) to host the inaugural Calabrian Table Tour. The week long tour was incredible, 7 participants and 3 tour guides. Not only did we get an insider's look at areas of Calabria most tourists don't ever see, we met wonderful locals and had incredible food and wine during the one week tour. And we had a few hands on cooking lessons as well. Cherrye also helps people with genealogy research. Either Cherrye or Tania would work with you on a custom tour. You can't go wrong with these two!
