We are flying in to Malpensa late on a Sat and would like recommendations on decent affordable hotels nearby. We would then leave the next morning for our travels in Italy. Thanks!

How late? You'd probably be better off getting into Milan and staying near the train station.

We arrive at 20:50 after having flown all night/day from the US. We would be traveling north to Lake Como on Sunday so would prefer to be north of Milan.

Check the train schedule to wherever you are staying at Lake Como. I think you will have to train/bus from Malpensa to Milan to get there, anyway. Sometimes it's easier to get to a hotel in the city than at the airport.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express the evening before our early morning departure. I don't know if their shuttle is manned at that time of night, but there is an airport shuttle that takes you from terminal 1 to terminal 2 and has a stop about a block from the hotel. This was nice, clean, and convienent. I thought the cost was reasonable and comparable to the US. Will you have a car to drive to Lake Como or will you be taking the train? A quick check on Trenitalia shows that you could go either to Milan Cadorna or you could connect at Saronno for Como Nord Lago station. Have a great time. Lee
