I will be visiting Italy in mid November and am concerned with the recent earthquake. My itinerary includes Florence, Bologna, Ferrara, Padua, Revenna, Verona and Venice. I understand the earthquake is mainly in the central Umbia region, but I also came across video clips of sever damage in Ferrara which is one of the cities I will be visiting.
What was the date on the video clips?
Post the link to the video clip you saw. There's no way Ferrara was damaged in these recent quakes.
Yah, I just checked the date on the video clip and it was 4 years ago, just want to make sure there is no surprise.
I am in Ferrara right now - no earthquake activity at all here.
I was in Ferrara in 2012, there was significant damage, that's why I asked about the date.
According to google news, the present earthquake affected three pieces of property in Ferrara. Some masonry dust has been found in the cemetery chapel, that had been a little damaged in the 2012 quake; it has been closed as a precaution to check if plaster is secured to the walls. The owners of two private homes also asked for a check, and their homes were reported as undamaged and safe. That's all.
Check the date of that video.
That earthquake in Emilia-Romagna was on May 20th, 2012.
Even if you are near or sort of near an earthquake it may not hinder your travels. We are in Rome, about 100 miles from the direct hit on Norcia and we experienced all 3 quakes in the past 2 weeks. Aside from temporary closures of ancient sites for inspection and reported cracks in several churches, here all is fine. Yesterday we went to Orvieto, directly towards the quake zone. All was business as usual there. There is no way to predict when these may happen, just like California. Just go and enjoy your trip.
The news here on the stations is for visitors to please come to the areas not damaged in Umbria. As others said, can't predict when or when another one will occur.
