Reasonable transportation from Florence to winery in Greve

We are about to take our second trip to Italy and will be visiting a winery one of the days in Florence. Last time we used the bus, which is certainly reasonable but my wife gets motion sick so it was a little rough. I’ve checked with a car service that was recommended but they quoted me $250 to get there and back. It is a 15 mile trip each way so I was hoping to find something a little more reasonable. All suggestions welcome.

I experience motion sickness as well, and a car versus a bus wouldn't make any difference to my temperamental stomach. 🤢 Has your wife tried OTC anti nausea medication, such as Dramamine or Bonine? (I feel for her; motion sickness is no fun.)

I suspect a regular taxi would be less expensive, wouldn't it? You'd have to pay for two round-trips, but that would only be a total of 60 miles. I wouldn't think the cost would be $4 per mile. I so rarely take taxis--even in the US--that I'm not sure, though.

The following web site purports to show taxi fares. I have no idea how accurate it is, but it suggests about 51 euros for a 30-mile trip. Note that waiting time is estimated at 30-50 euros per hour, so it appears you'd save some money if you needed less than a full hour at the winery and asked the driver to wait.

Edited to add: Check package labeling before taking anti-nausea medication on the way to a wine-tasting experience. (It may be perfectly OK, but either one alone would put me to sleep.)

Are you stuck on that particular winery? If not, I highly recommend a company called 'WalkAboutFlorence' == we've done 2 tours with them - their BEST OF TUSCANY TOUR and CHIANTI WINE & FOOD SAFARI TOUR. They have a great website that describes the tours and you can book and pay on that website.

I appreciate the replies. Good point about rental cars. We will all enjoy our time at the winery and it makes no sense to drive. We may have to suck it up and take the bus. We are set on this winery. We have been before and want to take our family. I will check on the taxi rates. Thank you.

Are you going to Castello di Verrazzano? Two years ago they were providing transportation with a van from Florence to the winery and back. Don’t know if this is still the case but you may want to contact them.

I would also ask your hotel. They have lots of local resources.

Yes, we are going to Verrazzano but they aren’t offering the transportation at this time. Last year when we were supposed to go they had it but obviously we were not able to go.
