Will be in Venice two nights - Nov 4-5 - returning from a cruise on the 4th am and flying out from Marco Polo early morning on the 6th. Please suggest reasonable places to stay for two adults (males) with convenient access to metro. Thanks.
Metro??? I see you've not been to Venice previously :) There is not metro. You should stay longer than 1 night in Venice if you can.
Sorry - copy paste error. No metro in Venice, and yes, this is my first trip to Venice. We do have one day Oct 28 in Venice before the cruise and then two days after. Love to walk, and I'm told that is the best part of Venice.
You could check out The Beehive at www.cross-pollinate.com. I have not used them but have read good things. In Italy they have accommodations in Rome, Florence and Venice. We have rented apartments on last 3 visits to Venice. Twice through Hotel Campiello which is located very close to San Marco and this past July through Truly Venice Apartments. www.trulyveniceapartments.com For only 2 nights you could check out Campiello's Hotel. www.hcampiello.it We also enjoyed our stay at Pensione Guerrato which is located near the Rialto Market. www.pensioneguerrato.it Have stayed at Hotel Rialto on the Grand Canal at the foot of the Rialto Bridge but it was kind of pricy and I don't think worth the money. www.rialtohotel.com
Check out "Room In Venice Bed and Breakfast" and your search will be over!!!! Wonderful people, clean, great breakfast and very reasonable!!!
Hi Jayant, I've stayed in Venice several times and the place I stayed at in June was by far the best value I've stayed at based on location. Based on Rick Steves recommendation in his book we stayed at Albergo Doni. It was located just west of St Marks (3 minuntes) and 2 minutes from the cruise ships docks and vapereto stop (Zacharias). The hotel is just about as close to the action as you can get but is one side street over from the crowds so its quiter. Also, out the front door is a major route for the gondoals so you get a lot of free serenades and photo ops. The building has character (sloping floors, creaky stairs) and also includes breakfast. The hotel is also a block west of the Church of Zacharias which I found to be one of the unknown hidden gem of a church. Good paintings and see the crypt below. I reccommend staying around St. Marks wherever you stay Enjoy
We have enjoyed Ca Dogaressa on the Canareggio Canal. We had a jr suite because it has a canal view and is a very nice room. We have also stayed at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo in a double room off of the courtyard which was a nice size and nice size bathroom. Both hotels had very friendly, helpful staffs and we wouldnt hesitate to stay at either one again! Have a great trip Mimi
My husband and I stayed at Casa Rezzonico in Dorsoduro and absolutely loved it. The guys that runs the place are incredibly helpful. Ask for the room with the view of the side canal.
