Reasonable Hotels Several Cities!

I need hotels for Me, Grandmother and Grandson, college age, for Florence, Venice, Rome and Cinque Terre. The ones i have in other cities were very pricey! But I do need and want to be central in every city so I can rest and he can explore if necessary! Traveling June 5, 23.

Sincere Thanks,

Kirk

To help people help you, please provide what amount per night you consider reasonable, preferably in euros. And is that for one room or two?

In addition to Patricia’s excellent questions, how many nights do you have in each place? Is an apartment a desirable option so you get 2 bedrooms?

Have you looked on Booking.com? You can use it to sort what’s available for hotels, B&Bs, some apartments. Then look at the hotels’ websites. Sometimes rooms are cheaper there. RS guidebooks also list hotels.

Separate topic: have you researched travel insurance?

I've had good luck with using the suggestions in the Rick Steves guide books. He usually has hotels listed at different price levels.

Kirk, here’s a link to former threads about travel insurance. After you do a little research, start a separate post for specific questions. https://search.ricksteves.com/?button=&date_range=6m&filter=Travel+Forum&query=Travel+insurance&utf8=%E2%9C%93

Back to hotels. I understand there is a huge demand for travel this year. I started booking flights, hotels, etc in October, probably a little early but it works for me. Start researching and booking now. Good advise from everyone above. You may need to take into consideration how far Grandmother can walk and if she can walk up and down stairs.

Check out the Hotel Balesteri in Florence.

Fantastic small hotel on the Arno in a great location.

For Venice, the most affordable lodgings are in the area near the main train station.

For Rome, the area near the Pantheon is fantastic, but can be a bit expensive.

Hi Kirk,
Finding accommodations in the Cinque Terre for this June promises to be a challenge. It's a VERY popular destination that starts filling up months before the warm season. I don't have one to recommend but you might explore accommodations in Levanto? It's larger and right on the doorstep on the CT; just a few minutes away by train.

If looking to book in any of the 5 CT villages, be very careful to check the actual locations of accommodations you find that you are interested in. Some of them are up in the hills - not walking distance from the train stations or the 'central' stuff you say you'd like to be close to. Others are further away than you'd want to be if staying in or reasonably near the CT is the goal.

Since you are a grandmother, what is your interest in stair-climbing? In 2 of our lodgings in 2022, a climb of 3-4 flights was required. This also involved our baggage - there was no elevator. If you have mobility issues, you need to make sure that the lodging works for your ability.

You need to get these accommodations ASAP. You are traveling in the high season, and pickings 2 months out may be limited.

In terms of travel insurance, we (71,74) have purchased insurance which includes medical evacuation back to the US. We are in good health. But if a serious injury occurred, costs to return in a medical evacuation can be substantial. As a grandmother, this is probably something to add to your plans.

Just for clarity, I'm guessing your group is three; grandfather, grandmother and grandson? "Kirk" is usually a male's name?
