When did you book? Did you shop around before you booked? It sounds like a lot of money to me but I've never flown from Seattle. I booked LA to Florence, Oct. 14-Nov 2 for $579 on SwissAir, only stopping in Zurich. I booked it in mid-April (i.e. 6 months in advance). Don't know if this answers your question or not :/
Well, since they're non-refundable, it doesn't really make much difference, does it? :-) Speaking as a Seattleite, I can tell you that that price is within the average range. It's not a great deal but it's not bad.
Relax and enjoy your trip. Is this your first time to Italy?
Third trip. First time not open jaw.
I'll need to clarify the question.
Don't need info on airline, links or offers or anything.
RT Seattle/Florence only....
Just approx. dates and what you actually paid,
tickets in hand....or e-tickets... and leaving Florence after 9 am.... That seems to be a big factor....
Got mine 2/11/09.
And Michael, you are right.... I should just relax..
This is more a post script on whether someone should have waited with the economic down turn and all, or if it made any real difference. I'm seeing crazy low priced offers listed now, but none of them might be real.
Seems a little high, but not outrageously so. When booking our trip last year (for Nov.) I found that it was hard to get a good price going from Seattle to Florence. Seattle to Rome, or Seattle to Milan, were much cheaper. On the other hand, you have to count the cost of getting from those cities to Florence (and back), plus the extra hassle.
Are you sure it is $2,351 for two people. I just inputed the dates, etc. and came up with $1,327 on Lufthansa.
And that is round trip for 2 people. Unless I am reading it incorrectly.
Try flying to Milan ($800) and taking a train to Florence.
Wow! That seems really high. Sounds to me like a price for 2 people. Booked around April 20, 2009, through N.W. for a trip flying out of Mpls. on July 6. We flew open jaw into Venice and out of Milan. Total price per tkt. including all taxes, etc. was around $900. We have never booked that far in advance for a European trip.
Well then I'm not that far off the mark if your's was $900 RT out of Minnesota.
Ours for one fare RT Seattle/Florence is $1175.50.
Doesn't sound that bad to me. You have to remember that you are flying from the west coast and it always seems to cost more. There are much better deals if you live in the interior or the east coast - the price we pay for living near the Pacific I suppose!
I think the Post Script to buying so early this time was that the usual savings involved were mitigated by the drop in the global economy. So I feel it turned out to be a wash. I just ran my airfare crawler, takes 45 minutes on dial-up, and only a few real fares pop up that are significantly less expensive. These have crazy long layovers for the connecting flight back across the Atlantic, or we couldn't sit together, or we couldn't get the exit rows that we like.
Its all good.
Italia, arriviamo!
If you're happy then it wasn't too much to pay.
Looks OK to me. There will always be sale fares, but with all sorts of stipulations and layovers, etc. I've paid much more to fly out of DFW.
$1200-ish per person RT isn't too bad. We paid $1400 each for a flight this week. I think it costs a bit more to fly into Florence than it would to fly to Venice, Milian or Rome. Also depends on who you're flying with.
