Reading Vaporetto Schedule

I've looked at some of Venice's vaporetto schedules and it's somewhat confusing to me. Some definite times are listed and then there are columns labeled 'ai minuti' with different figures, such as 50 or 4. Can anyone tell me what that means? Thanks for your help.

ACTV has recently changed the nature of their website. I used to be able to input where I wanted to get on, where I wanted to get off and the time I wanted to travel. ACTV would then display the vaporetto line and travel time. Also, I could go to a larger schedule of all their vaporettos and see their full schedules. I don't seem to be able to do this with the changes. I need to explore more. In the meantime, here's a link to their updated route map. This one is really much nicer. http://www.actv.it/pdf/navigazione/Mappa_linee.pdf As metioned above, the vaporettos are quite frequent. You simply won't believe the vaporetto traffic on the Grand Canal.

Most come about every 15 or 20 minutes. They are like city buses.

Explaining this is probably harder than it really is, but I'll try. Open a schedule. they are posted on hellovenezia.com http://www.hellovenezia.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18&Itemid=135&lang=en You will see the "ai minuti" columns. there should be a normal time format column to the left of the first minuti column. There should be a normal time format column to the right of the last "ai minuti" column. Basically , it means that every hour between that column to the left and the time on the column to the right the vaporetto line leaves at those minutes after the hour. So it is a shorthand way of not having to repeat the same schedule times over and over again. If you click on Linea 1 on the above link. You'll get times leaving P Roma until 06:21 then the ai minuti columns are 1 11 21 31 41 51 the regular time format to the right starts at 20.21 so a vaporetto leaves P Roma at 06.21, the next one leaves at 7:01, then 7:11, then 7:21 ,7.31 7.41 7.51 and then repeats on the next hour.

Thanks so much. This helpline is truly just that...I've learned so much from other peoples' questions and the responses they've received in addition to my own questions. Can't wait to put it all to good use in Italy in September!! Grazie mille!!

Frankly, the only attention I paid to the Vaporetto schedules was to insure I wasn't counting on a stop that was only used at certain times of the day, or one direction only. If I had to wait on a boat, no worries! Just that much more time to make use of my camera and soak in the ambiance. "Ah... Venice"!

The only reason I wanted to look at the schedules was to have some idea for the day I must leave Venice. I am stopping in Padova enroute to Bologna and want to reserve at the Scrovegni Chapel. Otherwise, I hope to be off the clock as much as possible.
