RE: Travel from Varenna to Venice (Marco Polo)

We are flying into Venice, down to Rome & Tuscany, up to Varenna and back out of Venice for a 1st time 12 day tour of Italy. My question is how long (and reliable) is the TrenItalia trip back to Venice from Verenna if we have a 13:30 flight out of Venice. I'm guessing the we should go ahead and stay somewhere close to Marco Polo the evening before our flight out. Thanks for the help. CWT
