Ravenna to Venice

We have a cruise from Athens to Venice.
Apparently, it docks in Ravenna as the dock for Venice.
Does anyone have a recommended way into Venice?

You might find some good information on this by going to a travel forum specific to cruises.

My understanding is that there are the following options.
1. Book the cruise line’s shuttle/transfer
2. Taxi to bus station, bus to Venice
3. Taxi to train station, train to Venice
4. Private transfer that you arrange. Several companies offer these. Google “transfer from Ravenna Port”

We took a bus to the Ravenna city center. Then got on a train toward Bologna for 30 miles or so. Got off and another train picked us up a few minutes later and took us on into Venice. In all, it's about 70 miles to Venice.

You can get on vaparetto's in front of the Venice train station that takes you to close to your hotel. I suggest you check and see what water bus stop you should use. I always checkout Google Maps for the neighborhood prior to going out to Venice. It can be confusing to navigate the walkways and alleys without a good map.

Try Cruise Critic for possible options and your specific sailing roll call to see others are planning.

Ravenna is a long way from Venice. If they advertised the cruise as going to Venice, and it went to Ravenna, I'd unhappy :-)

I don't know, but are the number of cruise ships being limited at Venice now?

It's a two and a quarter hour drive from Ravenna to Venice - expensive taxi ..
There are busses and trains. They take that same amount of time, or more.

On a side note, don't downplay the beauty of Ravenna. Some fabulous mosaics in a charming little town. Worth spending a day there.

Ravenna has enough sights to fill at least two days, but most visitors would probably be satisfied with seeing the mosaic sites they could squeeze into one day. It's a very nice city, and as of September it was not yet overwhelmed by foreign tourists. I fear that will happen eventually, with the cruise ships docking in the area.

I'm not a cruiser, but I hope that cruise lines stop advertising cruises "To Venice" soon, when more and more of them are docking way outside the city.
It's definitely a good move to try and save the lagoon area, but confusing for cruise travelers.
From the many questions on the Forum, it seems that the cruise lines themselves are not helpful in telling their passengers how to actually get to their ships to and from Venice.

Another vote for spending a couple of days in Ravenna.
It's a charming little city with lots to see.
