Ravenna, Italy on a Sunday

We will be arriving by cruise ship on a Sunday in July. Will the historic sites, churches and museums be open? As we are bringing a grandchild we want to be sure we can take him into these sites. Thank you for any advice you can provide.

Churches will be open for Mass and for visitors outside of Mass times. Ravenna is very compact, it will be easy to get around. Monday is the day that most sites are closed.

Thanks for the prompt response! We were going to sign our grandson up for a Smithsonian program on Ravenna, but if he couldn't see anything, would it be pointless. Now we will all attend and know more about what we are seeing.

So you will probably want to see San Vitale, the Baptistery (I once happened to be there as a baptism was being prepared), Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the Mauseolum of Gallia Placidia, and a ten-minute cab ride out of town is Sant'Apollinare in Classe. Gorgeous mosaics in all of them. The museum also has good things, and there are some mosaic workshops but I doubt that these would be open on Sunday. You can double-check hours of operation by googling. I went to the Mausoleum of Theodoric, wish I had skipped it.
