Does this sound correct Ravenna to Orvieto....our ship docks at 6:00am at the Ravenna port. It seems that a taxi is the only way to get from the port to the Ravenna train station. Train from Ravenna to Rimini, change train from Rimini to Bologna, change train in Bologna to Florence and last Florence to Orvieto. This will be May 29th. I've been checking times trains leave from each station wanting to make sure we have plenty of time to get to the next. I'm looking at the direct trains from town to town, seems like some have stops between. Now this seems like a crazy plan but is it doable? Plan sounded fine months ago but now I'm having mixed feelings Any suggestions would be very helpful
No need to go to Rimini then back to Bologna
Ravenna to Bologna is about an hour regional train runs every hour- no need to buy in advance- although you certainly can
8:44, 9:44, etc
Then Check Bologna to Orvieto
I know there is an IC train from Bologna to Orvieto. 8:50, 2:55
No changes but yes a few stops, a few minutes longer than change in Florence- but no changes makes it so much easier
Check for and buy the 2 legs separately if you have to just to get that combo and you can determine how much time you have for the change
Will you spend any time in Ravenna?
Are you using the Trenitalia website?
Orvieto is a long way from Ravennna. And until you get to Bologna, you will be on local trains that stop frequently and don't go very fast. I think the trip will take you most of the day.
Not doable at all even if you are in port for 12 hours. The fastest train one way is 4-1/2 hours. Why not go to Venice? That may be possible. You don’t want to be back at the ship after your pre departure time. I’ve been on 4 Med Cruises and I’ve seen people that were late left at the dock as the ship sailed away.
Oh!
I assumed this is at end of the cruise
Jo- could you clarify? Because no way this can be done as a day trip
If this is just a day in port go visit the fantastic mosaics in Ravenna.
From the port to the Ravenna train station I read that will be a shuttle soon, so double check with your cruise company.
As a daytrip is not doable by train. You can rent a car (or a car with driver) and drive there. Is a very scenic route, but takes at least 3 hours and half each way. As daytrip there are Ravenna, Ferrara, Bologna, and other very nice towns south of Ravenna that are much easier to be reached.
OMG I was not clear, our cruise ends at the dock in Ravenna but we will continue our land trip which will be 11 more nights, flying home out of Naples on June 9th. Thank you all for your patience.
It seems that a taxi is the only way to get from the port to the Ravenna train station
You can take bus #90 from outside the Porto Corsini Cruise Terminal to the Aldo Moro Square in front of the railway station
Train from Ravenna to Rimini, change train from Rimini to Bologna
No, ChristineH is right. Where are you checking the train schedules?
Just take a 1 hour Regionale train to Bologna Centrale. From there to Orvieto there are 4 Intercity direct trains that take between 2h48mm and 3h25mm. There are slightly faster options to go from Bologna to Orvieto, but you should change either in Florence or in Orte.
You don't need plenty of time to transfer between trains run by Trenitalia, as long as you purchase a through ticket on the official site your connections will be protected.
seems like some have stops between
Yes, even a direct train can make intermediate stops. You can see the list of intermediate stops clicking the small gray " i " on trenitalia.com . Note down the last stop before Orvieto, it should be Chiusi-C.T. but I'm not sure.
Thank you just what I needed
