In the Italy 2019, there is no mention of the city of Ravenna. It has several significant areas of art, science, and church history. Why is it not included in former mentioned tour guide?
We have been told the printer says the Itally guide book simply cannot be any larger.
Ravenna is wonderful and doesn't get too many American tourists. Be grateful it's not in the book at this point.
It, and other cities in 'Venetto' are covered as day trips from Venice in his Venice Guide. Also, other publishers tend to have a more regional guide for this area....a treasure.
As I recall, the Lonely Planet guidebook for Italy had a pretty good section on Ravenna. When traveling, I use several guidebooks, sometimes duplicated in an eBook for my phone or iPad. That way, I get more than one insight into what to do and where to eat/sleep/play.
RS guidebooks are very valuable to me because of the nuts and bolts approach to travel in the most popular places for Americans. Lonely Planet and Rough Guides are better for areas which are less touristed with Yanks.
Depending on one's itinerary, sometimes a couple of Rick's city or regional guidebooks are now a better option than the Italy guidebook. They provide greater detail about the city or region, as well as information about destinations previously covered in the Italy guidebook (such as Ravenna). You can also supplement Rick's guidebooks with other good guidebooks that, although updated less frequently, have good coverage of destinations not covered in Rick's guidebooks.
The RS Venice guidebook has a section on Ravenna, including a self-guided tour.
