Ravello vs Positano

We will be spending 2 nights on the Amalfi coast mid June 2012. Wondering if we should stay in Ravello or Positano. Looking for recommendations of places to stay.

Cinda, Positano is beautiful and so is Ravello. In my opinion, I would pick Positano and do a day trip (via the ferry) to Amalfi and then take the bus up to Ravello. From Positano, you can also do a day trip to Capri if that interests you. As for places to stay, my wife and I stayed at Bucca di Bacco in Positano for 4 nights in May 2009. The location is wonderful (right near the shore) and we found the hotel to be perfect. For our budget it is a little pricey and was the most expensive hotel of our trip but worth it. Breakfast was GREAT Tom

It really depends on what you want to do with your two days. If it's rest and relaxation than Ravello is where I would go. It's out of the way and very quiet. The views are so beautiful and the small town is easy to walk around but there is not much else to do. If you are interested in doing more than stay in Positano and you have access to so much. You can take the bus or boat to many places or just sit by the beach. We stayed in Positano and day tripped all over the region.

That time of year in Positano you will be able to enjoy the beach and you have easy access via ferry to Capri and Amalfi. Another comment mentioned the Buca di Bacco, that is a good location and miminizes the stairs. The stairs can be brutal. I stayed in a villa that took 15 minutes straight up to get to.

Positano for sure. Try La Tavolozza. It is mid town and ask for the balcony room. There are 3 - View to die for. We stayed there in 2006 and are thinking of Amalfi coast again next year. The e-mail was and maybe still is celeste.dileva@tiscali.it. You can google the hotel as well(family owned and no breakfast).

That's a tough question. I stayed in Positano for a week this past summer and still didn't get to do everything I wanted. We did get to go see Ravello again, having seen it first in 1996. It gets better each time! If I only had two nights like you, I think I would stay in Ravello and maybe just take the bus down to the town and/or beach in Amalfi. The gardens of Ravello (at Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo) are "to die for", as are the stunning views of the Amalfi coast. We ate at a wonderful hotel restaurant with spectacular views while in Ravello. The hotel is called "Villa Amore". You may want to check out the hotel or just eat there.

Just got back. Ravello is beautiful and quite. Beautiful gardens as previously mentioned. The ferry is not running between Amalfi towns this time of year.
