Ravello vs other Amalfi town 4 nights with kids

Hi! We are going to arriving by train into Naples and are trying to figure out best town to stay in. We have currently booked Ravello because we have heard it is both beautiful, but because separate and not as crowded as other towns. We are going June 20th for 4 nights with kids. I am having a hard time choosing because we like very fine food, even our children and want to have many authentic options for food, but do like the appeal of Ravello having fewer crowds than some of the other towns. Ideas we have are to do a boat tour to Capri or grottos (tbd exactly where - so recommendations of again not too touristy boat trips), hiking (is path of the Gods worth it - or are there better ones), pompeii for a day. So, is Ravello a good place to stay since we are going to be leaving the location quite a bit for things to see. at this point we werent going to rent a car because of traffic. We dont mind a good amount of walking to get to things from ravello. In essence trying to make sure it is worth trekking back in to that town from our other activities and enough good authentic restaurants right in Ravello. any other thoughts or suggestion are very much appreciated. thank you in advance!

I think the travel time required for your day trips makes Ravello not the best choice. In fact, getting to Pompeii is difficult from most Amalfi coast locations, though not so bad from the mainland end, but then getting to Capri is more difficult. Late June is very hot, so for hiking, I would stay where you can get on trails at crack of dawn.

You don’t want to rent a car on the Amalfi coast. It’s easy to take the bus between the towns. Since Ravello is at a higher elevation, I would think you would want to stay in one of the beach towns such as Amalfi which is the transportation hub. Especially with kids so that they would have much easier access to the beach, and buses and boats to go along the coast. Ravello is also quite small and gets very crowded just like everywhere else. Yes, hiking is worth it, although it gets really hot during the summer.

Ravello is not a good choice
Transportation to and from is time consuming and limited

Look at Amalfi, Minori, Maiori or Salerno
Any village with ferry access

It will be very crowded everywhere on the AC in June

Best restaurants in the area are in Sorrento and Salerno

There are dozens of threads here addressing AC and all of the issues
