We are debating between these two day trip tours both from Naples where we are staying:
One is Positano-Amalfi-Ravello
The other is Sorrento-Positano- Amalfi
If have to choose between visiting only one of the 2 of Sorrento and Ravello - which would you pick?
Sorrento doesn’t really have any sights
Lots of shopping and good restaurants, lots of tourists
Easily seen on your own, no need for a tour
Ravello has the villas/ gardens/ views
Time of year, method of transportation and length of time in each town would be helpful to know

Ravello. You did not give the time of year or any mobility concerns. Although Positano was on my must see list, it was a bit underwhelming. You can indeed visit Sorrento on your own with a gritty commuter train, one hour, a few Euros, no reservations.
The more people visit Ravello, the less attractive it will be!
I would definitely pick Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.
I took this tour from Sorrento, not Naples, and my guess is you’ll spend about 4 or 5 hours between the towns. If this is a private tour, I would ask the operator to skip Positano or Amalfi so you can spend more time in Ravello so you can visit both villas, which are highlights.
