Flying from Atlanta to Italy, my destination is Ravello Italy. Where should I fly into and how do I get from the Airport to Ravello? I do not want to drive and the trip will be in March 2010. Any help will be appreciated
The nearest airport is Naples.
From there you could:
arrange a private door to door transfer
public taxi to Ravello
airport bus (www.curreriviaggi.it/) to Sorrento (abt 10 euro)and local bus/hire car/taxi to Ravello via Amalfi.
public taxi/bus (Alibus abt 3 euro) to Naples Garibaldi train station, local Circumvesuviana train (http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en/InfoStazione) to Sorrento (abt 3 euro) then as above.
bus (Alibus) to Naples port (3 euro), boat to Sorrento (the other boat services do not run in the off season), then as above. Current timetable and fares below.

Public Taxi rates in Naples, including the fixed rate journeys, which you MUST agree with the driver before you get in the cab, are shown below.
You will also see fixed rate fares to the Amalfi Coast listed. If you want to use public taxis for the Ravello journey you will have your work cut out persuading the driver that a fixed fare exists, good luck!
Have used all the above methods when travelling to Sorrento but these days our preference is to use a hire car. So much less hassle, and no protracted and excitable discussions with taxi drivers, when you first get off the plane.
One warning, the public taxis in and from Sorrento are outrageously expensive (we have been charged 35 euro for a ten minute journey) so if you do decide to use a car/taxi from that point a private hire car would be better value.
All the info is based on current fares etc, you will need to check again nearer the date. Pleased to help if you have any further questions but getting hold of a guide book for the area would be a good idea.
Just thought that you could go from Naples train station to Salerno, bus to Amalfi, then bus to Ravello. Plus taxi etc permutations. Have no personal experience of this particular journey so maybe someone else could comment on the feasibilty.
One other avenue of thought. You could take the local train from Naples to Sorrento then take the ferry and see the coast line to Amalfi and then the bus up to Ravello. Ferries are nominal and the bus certainly is cheap.
If you are flying in from the U.S., the closest international airport you can get with non-stops from the U.S. is Rome-FCO. I don't think that you will see non-stop international flights from the U.S. to Naples. To get to Naples, you will need to change planes and most likely carriers. If you are willing to do this, you can look for all kinds of special airfares. We had to do this to get to Florence. It worked well.
Next, Ravello is 280km (173 miles) from Rome-FCO. It's 80km (50 miles) from Napoli-NAP (says so on Villa San Michelle's website).
If you tell us into which airport you will be arriving, I can be more specific on instructions.
"take the ferry and see the coast line to Amalfi"
These ferries do not run from about the end of Oct to about April/May.
