Should we stay in Ravello or Amalfi or Sorrento for a couple of nights before we head over to Capri for the week?

I personally would stay in Sorrento. Loved the other towns on the coast but they were so small and to me not much to do, see except eat and shop. From Sorrento you can easily go to Pompeii for the day, I seem to remember is only about half hour by train.

Sorrento, no doubt about it. And I'm sure you mean Ravello, not Rapello.
