Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Portofino - boat hire

Hi, We are going to Rapallo in August and wanted to hire a small boat for 2 to drive along the coast, stopping at various places for lunch, a swim etc. It seems very expensive to hire one for the day. Does anyone know any reasonable price boat hire companies in the area, or if it is easy enough to hire and drive a boat yourself? I have seen some companies that just do the boat hire, but not sure how easy it is to navigate the coast, dock the boat etc for someone with little boat experience given potential rough seas at times?

any ideas?

thanks

These ports are very very crowded in August and it would be a daunting task even for some one with a lot of experience, especially without speaking Italian. Moreover, at this Rapallo rental place a license is required and a 17' boat is 100E for half day, 150E for a full day: http://www.noleggiobarcherapalloportofino.it/flotta-con-listino-prezzi/

There are however water taxis available who will take you out on a custom trip and/or drop you off where you wish. Some are mentioned at the bottom of this article: http://www.apathtolunch.com/2014/05/getting-to-portofino-walking-hiking-and.html

This is just a very expensive part of Italy...when you see the yachts anchored in Portofino you'll get it. It's also relatively small and there are a limited number of small boats going out and around to these places.
