Rapallo - Ferry service

My husband and I will be staying in Rapallo for the second leg of our trip at the end of June. We would love to use the ferry to travel along the coast one of the days. Should I have already booked our ferry ride, or is it pretty easy to get tickets the day of? I haven't been able to find a lot of information on this. I guess that I figured that the ferry service would depend on the weather. If I do book ahead of time are the tickets set up so we can get on and off throughout the day? I want to start and end in Rapallo. Thank you for any advice you have.

I don’t think any ferries have hop on/hop off service unless there is an all day pass you can purchase

Because of the transport issues, be sure to have your transport to the coast well planned. You might consider a private transfer to be sure you don’t miss your boat, then maybe take a cheap bus back at the end of the day. In late June there can be long lines for the bus.

The website for ferry service from Rapallo is here: https://traghettiportofino.it/en/
You can buy tickets the same day for Santa Margherita, Portofino, and San Fruttuoso. At the latter you can catch a different ferry line to Camogli (and then train back to Rapallo).
You can also ferry down the coast to Chiavari, Lavagna, Sestri Levante, Moneglia and Cinque Terre and some of those tickets I believe must be reserved. Check on the above website. Note that the train from Rapallo to Cinque Terre is much faster.
For more background info, look at this website, but it doesn't have up to date information: https://www.apathtolunch.com/2014/07/portofino-ferry-boat-schedules-from.html
