Yes, it's pretty but it didn't grab me. Camogli did.
Camogli is wonderful. Didn't get a chance to visit Rapallo.
These are notes I gave on two other recent threads (which didn't get much further discussion):
1) I liked staying in Rapallo, which included a day of late-October storm-watching from a comfortable room at Residence il Convento with supplies from the excellent cheese shop on the main shopping street. Rapallo is a larger city than Santa Margherita, but their waterfronts and architecture felt almost identical, to me. In winter, beaches don't look like much, as storms can wash down a huge amount of debris from streams.
2) Rapallo is definitely a good place for the passeggiata, and hopefully an ocean breeze. You'll see local boatmen enjoying their private beach clubs (basically a hut and a picnic table inside a fence). See if Residence Il Convento has any space. If not, then I'd search at booking.com. I was not there in summer but assume it can't be any more crowded than any other beach town.
Rapallo is much bigger than Camogli. I stayed in Rapallo for 5 nights in July 2014 and enjoyed it because it was in a good location for day trips to Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli & Portofino. Camogli is worth a visit and is very photogenic, especially if you get there right after a storm; just do a Google images search & you'll see what I mean! Rapallo has a long sea-side promenade which is pretty during the day & night and also has a funicular which was fun if you have time.
I love Rapallo. Have stayed twice there, single female traveler, one week at a time. Love the town, great restaurants and shopping, and great connections to other places on the Italian Riviera. Less expensive then Santa Margheritta, but more authentic, in my opinion. More of an everyday Italian town. Beautiful promenade along the seafront, and a cute castle as well. Wish I were there now.....
