hello ill be visiting Rome next week and I recently seen the forecast, and it indicates that there will be possible showers for a few days on and off rain, so now I am considering making a few changes its just hard to predict the weather I was planning on visiting Pompeii on Thursday. It might rain that day should I cancel going to Pompeii or does it stay open during rainy days? also the day that I plan on visiting the coliseum might rain as well do outdoor sites close or do they stay open?. should I keep my sight seeing as is? thinking of checking out indoor sight on rainy days and the outdoor stuff on the non rainy days
Take a rain coat with a removeable hood, rain resistance pants and shoes. Why let rain ruin a trip.
We just returned from Rome, had rain showers off and on, bring a light weight rain jacket with a hood. You can always buy an umbrella for about 3 euro
We were in Italy in Aug/Sept of this year and prior to leaving the U.S. I was monitoring the weather in Venice (our first stop). There was a 60% or greater chance of rain predicted for several of our days there and I was concerned that it might be a problem. The same thing happened for Rome. What I noticed though is that the rain moves in and out very quickly in Italy and it was never a huge problem. It never rained for more than 20 minutes at a time and did not effect any of our plans. I'm not saying this is always the case but you really can't depend on the forecast 100%. I would play it by ear and wait until you get there & see what happens. I would not let the chance of rain hinder any of your plans. We had a photography tour scheduled in Venice and the tour guide and I kept e-mailing back and forth the day before regarding the forecast and he said it didn't look good. Even the morning of the tour it looked like it would be a very rainy day but within a few hours, it cleared up and ended up being a sunny day! So, don't rely too much on the forecast. I would have a list of indoor activities in case it does rain and just play it by ear when you get there. Have a wonderful trip! I'm so jealous!
No one can predict the weather more than a day in advance. Right now they are guessing at what the weather will be like. I wouldn't change any plans until the night before. Rome is a very easy city to visit. On days you wake up and the weather is good do the outdoor activities. On days when it's rainy do the indoor activities. The same with Pompeii. Check the forecast each night and wait until you get a clear or mostly clear day. I wouldn't let rain keep me from doing anything I want to do but you can do your best to work around it. donna
One one of Rick's 7 Days in Rome tours, it was pouring with rain when we left the hotel for the metro, and while we walked to San Clemente and it was still raining at the Colosseum. By the time we left the Colosseum (around mid-day)the sun was coming out and it was getting hot again and turned into a lovely afternoon. A number of us bought cheap umbrellas from the hawkers who miraculously turned up outside our hotel (five Euro as I recall) and just about everyone had a light rain jacket of some sort. I was damp some of the time, but once the sun came out soon dried off. Of course this was in early September, not late October! So it will be cooler. Pompeii will be open even if it rains - all the trails are good so no problems walking around the site.
Thanks everybody for your feedback and knowledge!. Feel less concern about the rain now:) ill keep you posted when I'm in Rome
