Will I need to be concerned about rain mid September? What are nighttime temperatures like?
Thanks
What part of Italy?
We had several days of rain last September in Bologna and Padua
You can look up past weather and forecasts on google

Hello bgfox, and welcome to the boards,
Where are you going to be?
Last September just missed rain on Lake Como by a day but it was beautiful for all the time we were there.
We were threatened with storms for many days on the northern coast, but it only lightly rained for a few minutes here and there. Aside from some choppier seas we didn't see much impact to our travels. The locals didn't seem to take the forecasts very seriously.
In Lucca a week later or so it did rain hard one afternoon but that was all and it cleared up completely.
So in the north last year for 3 weeks we experienced essentially one afternoon of rain and a few light showers.

Exactly, There's no way to predict what the weather will be at the time of your visit, and that can vary depending on exactly WHERE in Italy you'll be traveling. Still, it doesn't matter: you just need to go prepared for wet/dry/hot/etc. Weather isn't the do all, end all. Take an umbrella and a jacket, and use as needed.
We live in central Minnesota, and our weather this year has been anything BUT normal so unless traveling in mid-summer or mid-winter, just plan for a mild shift warm/cool/dry/wet either way. The thing is to plan an itinerary with a mix of indoor and outdoor attractions, if possible, to flex with Mother Nature. We've had some memorable hours in the rain (and some hail!) when that's the hand we were given!
