Rain and Thunderstorms in Vernazza and Venice Now What Suggestions Welcome

We are headed to Vernazza tomorrow for 2 days and the next day Venice.
Rain and thunderstorms 80 - 90 % chance.
Any ideas how to spend time?
Have read can train between towns but are we better staying put in Vernazza?
Also For Venice what do you suggest in
rain? Still ride Vaporetta?
Meeting friends there so figure if nothing else we can eat and drink but would prefer more activities.
Thanks for any suggestions

hmm - you must be using another weather forecaster than I do (https://weather.yahoo.com/italy/veneto/venice-725746/). I see rain and thunder, but not much storm ("Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph" = "Gentle breeze" on the Beaufort scale).

When it rains every street corner in the city will be packed with people selling rain coats and unbrellas - remember that the price they offer is approximately 200% of the "real" price.

You can still ride the vaporetto on Canale Grande, but check the surface before you go to Murano and Burano :-)

If you get tired of the rain you can visit the Doge Palace - it's dry (though the Piazza San Marco may not be - be prepared to take of your shoes and wade through the water - a truly wonderful experience in my opinion - in the summer).

Have a nice time :-)

The thunderstorms are in Vernazza tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. Rain on Friday in Venice. Thanks for the Venice suggestion.Just got ponchos.
Sounds like umbrellas are useless in Venice. How about Cinque Terre?

I am in CT right now. It was sunny with haze this morning but has clouded over some which is making it more pleasant IMO. I would wait and see what it's like when you get here. Our guide's weather app has been comically wrong for 2 weeks. We think he is getting better results by lighting candles in the various churches we are visiting, lol.

If the seas are rough the ferry does not run so if this is on your agenda and it is nice when you arrive do it that afternoon.

Definitely take the trains between towns even if raining.

PS Note to self...don't have a drink with Prosecco for lunch unless you have built in some siesta time.

If it really turns out to be nasty weather I would decrease my stay at the lake and or at the 5 Terre. Cities like Venice offer plenty of things to do even with rainy weather. Just be careful not to slip inside a canal with the wet surfaces.

Umbrellas are NOT useless in Venice.....USE them. If you want to enjoy your time walking the city in a rain, use an umbrella. A hood on a poncho, or rain coat will not allow you to look around, you will be looking down at your feet.

When it starts raining...all the locals pull out umbrellas to use. You can ride the Vaporetta in a rain.

We were in Venice for 3 nights in May and it rained 2 of the days. We wore our waterproof shoes and rain coats and used our compact umbrellas we brought from home. This allowed us to continue to sight see with pleasure.

It's enjoyable to walk the alleyways during a rain....the other tourists will be hiding on their cruise ships and in their hotel rooms....

there is currently a symposium of European architecture in Venice....some of it is in door displays, some outside. and of course, there are the regular small museums in some of the old churches...most are free....

I've never heard that umbrellas are useless in Venice. When it rained when I was there - usually a small chance whenever we have been there - I found that an umbrella was lots of help. And there will be plenty of people selling them. Interestingly the counterfeit handbag guys are different to the counterfeit umbrella guys. I would have thought that it would have been the same guys with different stock.

There are loads and loads of wet weather things to do in Venice. Don't be scared of the weather.

Also - it may be rainy one minute and sunny or overcast the next.

One last thing. There is no such thing as a (or many) vaporetta. It is one vaporetto, several vaporetti. It is masculine, not feminine.

Gosh, I thought of you during the night in Monterosso when there was a thunderstorm and again this morning as it poured rain when we were leaving!

Hope the weather cleared for you!
