Railway Map

I am looking for a railway map that would identify all the stops along a route. Every site I go to asks where I want to go, but my goal at the moment is to break up a long train trip by staying a night or two mid-way between two towns. I've researched online quite a bit and have had no luck. Thanks!

If you go to www.bahn.com and put your route in, when you get the results, you can click on the individual train (ex. Regionale XXXXX), and it will show all the stops of that train from the start to the end point.

You can also go to google maps, and zoom in until you see the actual train stations shown, then work your way along the rail route to see other stations.

Ditto what Sam said about Bahn.de. Just use the "show intermediate stops" button. And then there is also a map view if you want. I do this every trip to find interesting places for stopovers.

The map functions comes up when you've selected »Show details«. It's somewhat awkward to handle - the zoom function is terrible - but it gives you an impression of the train's route.

RometoRio ( https://www.rome2rio.com/) will show the stops if you click on the "train details" arrow when you pick a train option from the search results. RometoRio helped me select Strasbourg as a place to break up the train ride from Paris to Munich.

Post what cities you wish to travel between, and someone on here will assist you in finding a good mid point city.

Thank you all so much - you have been very helpful, as always!

We are going by train from Formia-Gaeta to Monopoli. Don't really want to go down to Salerno/Naples and then over to the Adriatic. What I have now is Formia-Gaeta to Benevento to Monopoli, but was trying to see if there is something a little closer to Monopoli on the train line.

Batkins,

You can also see any train route on the Trenitalia.com website. You put in your route, then you click on the tiny grey icon (circle with a white "i" in the center) below the train number, and you'll see all the stops along whatever route you choose.

For example, if you put in Rome (Roma Termini) to Venice (Venezia S. Lucia), the train will stop at Florence, Bologna, Padua, and Venezia Mestre before reaching Venezia Santa Lucia.

You may also find this interactive Italy Railroad Map helpful. Unfortunately the instructions are in Italian, but basically, you can choose the specific region you're interested in (National vs. Regional), and see all the train routes. You can also see train timetables for specific train stations, trains in transit, etc, etc.

Where are you traveling to?

Enjoy!

Batkins,

We are going by train from Formia-Gaeta to Monopoli. Don't really want to go down to Salerno/Naples and then over to the Adriatic. What I have now is Formia-Gaeta to Benevento to Monopoli, but was trying to see if there is something a little closer to Monopoli on the train line.

If you check the Trenitalia website, and put in your route, you'll see that you can get to Monopoli in about 5.5 hours if you depart on the 7:05 Regionale 2377 train & it will involve 3 changes (I chose January 10 for this example). If you click on the small black arrow under the travel time with the word, "Show", you'll see the details regarding the type of trains & the departure/arrival stations.
Then you can click on each of the information icons (tiny grey circle) under each of the train numbers to see the route (as explained above)

You can then choose how far or how long you want to travel.
The third train will be a Frecciargento 8303 (high speed train), which travels from Caserta to Bari Centrale, but you may only want to travel to Benevento, Foggia, or Barletta.

I've not traveled to this region of Italy, so perhaps you can start a new post asking which of these places is more charming or worth as a stopover.

Good luck & enjoy your trip!

Edit to add...
In the example I used above, you'll see that you'll have about an hour "layover" in Caserta.
It looks like Foggia is about the half way point, and about a 2 hour train ride to Monopoli.

Aha Priscilla - thank you! I never clicked on the "I" ... geesh! Because we will be ferrying from Ponza to Formia-Gaeta that same morning, I didn't think it would be wise to consider a 7:05 am train. Thanks, again!
