Railroad strike

Blockquote

Has anyone heard of an extensive strike most of next week? We can't buy tickets at the travel agent here is Rome after the 21st. It seems suspicious to me that I have heard nothing. Going to check at the termini and if so I guess have to rent car. Here and stuck now.

Looks like the website is hard for travel agents. We went back after she did some checking and got the rest of our tickets. They are use to so many strikes she assumed it was a strike. So no train strikes next week.

Well, no wonder our bus never came in Rome and no wonder we couldn't get a taxi. We ended up walking. Fortunately Rome is compact enough that you can do that if you're in halfway decent shape.

(I have to say that I read this to find out what a "Railroad stick" could possibly refer to.)

Sorry for the miss spelling I was using an iPhone in some desperation to find out what to do. It made no sense that this big a strike and no word about it. Two problems, Italians feel like everyday is another strike and the train website is very hard to use. And also the ticket agents at the train station don't speak much English.

Judy,

Good to hear that you got your train tickets.

You can always edit your post & fix the misspelled word...

Happy trails!

Our experience last year- Italo trains were running the day Trenitalia was on strike. The Italo website is a breeze, trains were great, prices comparable or perhaps better. The Italo system is not as extensive as Trenitalia but if they go where I want to, that's who we will travel with. I also recall our first trip to Rome in 1972. I was 21, on our first trip abroad. I wondered then about a city that had a "dial-a-strike" phone number.

Where can i see upcoming strikes for June/July in Italy announced? I looked but wasn't able to find it yet

I am scouring the information posted to find out about the strike scheduled on June 3rd as referenced by another poster. However, I cannot find it. Having a little panic on this because that day is the day my college student meets up with us in Milan, and she is coming from Florence by train--and already has a ticket.

I don't believe there is a strike that date, as there is nothing on the Italian Transportation strike website. I looked at the article linked by the poster who said there was a strike on June 3rd, and there is a mention there of a strike that occurred two years ago on June 3rd, so maybe that is where the confusion came in.

Eric;

Thank you for the clarification. I looked everywhere, I just couldn't find it, thought I was missing something.
