I seek information on rail travel between Paris and Florence for fall travel. Travel time? Stops? Is Sienna a possible stop? The Eurail sight has been of no help. Thanks for your
input.
Too early for any schedules. Schedules are not available until about 90 days out and sometimes closer to 60. Just for schedule information use bahn.de and the same day of the week next week or next month. There is little change from one quarter to another. Don't use Eurail or Rail Europe.
Sage, As Frank mentioned, the "Eurail" or Rail Europe websites will be of little help, as they typically only list routes that they sell tickets for. The best and most comprehensive website for researching rail trips is the Deutsche Bahn website (German Rail network). The shortest trip I could find was a departure at 07:49 from Paris Lyon, arriving in Florence at 16:30 (time 8H:41M, 1 change at Torino Porta Susa, reservations compulsory). NO, Siena is not a "possible stop" on that route. If you want to visit Siena for a day trip, your best bet is to travel by Bus from Florence. The trip is only about an hour or so each way, and you'll be dropped off in the centre of town in Piazza Gramsci. If this is your first trip to Italy, I'd suggest having a look at the Italy Guidebook, as there are some "pitfalls" to be aware of when travelling by train there. For example, tickets on Regionale trains MUST be validated or hefty fines can result. Also, reservations are compulsory on some trains, and those who don't have a reservation may also be fined. Fines are usually collected on the spot and they're not cheap! Happy travels!
