We are planning a 3-city trip next fall. Our plan is to go from Rome to Florence and then to Paris. We were going to do both hops by rail. The Rome to Florence won't be a problem, but I'm having a tough time figuring out the Florence to Paris leg. We were hoping to go from Florence to Paris on a daytime train so that we could look at the countryside along the way. Is this impossible? I see no day train leaving earlier than 2 PM (14:00) and that gets in after 11PM -- a tough time to be arriving. Is there no daytime train that leaves and gets in earlier? Is an overnight train or plane the only alternative?
Most travelers don't want to spend a day on a train, they would rather sleep during a long train ride. I would fly between Florence - Paris and save time. Flights are frequently cheaper than the train.
I just checked on the bahn.com website and they had morning departure times listed. Be sure to scroll down the times column and click on "LATER" and it will show more departure times. I'm like you in wanting to see the country side, whether it costs more or not. It's a beautiful continent.
Scott's onto something. A tip on using the Bahn site, pay attention to the entry in the time box, or keep clicking later, either works.
Carol's question has been answered to her satisfaction on her other thread---no need to duplicate here.
