Rail travel and itinerary in Italy

Just purchased air for travel from US to FCO on April 11, 2016. Lodging is reserved (but can be changed w/o charge) as follows:
Grottaferrata (Rome) April 12-16
Riomaggiore Cinque Terre April 16-19
Venice (Cannaregio) April 19-22
Pescara (Abbateggio) April 22-25 (will rent a car here for travel to Ancestor's birthplace, Corfinio, and exploring)
Maiori, Amalfi Coast April 25-29
Sorrento April 29-30
Fiumicino April 30 (town of Fiumicino so we can get to airport easily the next day)
Return to US May 1
I am leaning toward early purchase of point to point rail tickets for all but the first leg (arrival FCO to Grottaferrata). Main question is - from Sorrento would it be best to bus back to Salerno and catch the train there? It seems difficult to get to Naples... Also, I can't find the town of Fiumicino as a destination choice online. Main concern is that I will choose the wrong station to either leave from or arrive at!! We are a retired couple, 65 and 72, will travel light.

From Sorrento you can go by Circumvesuviana train to Naples. Circumvesuviana and Main train station in Naples are connected next to each other. Or you can go by boat and from the harbor in Naples take a taxi to the train station. Going via Salerno would be a big detour and would take substantially longer.

For Fiumicino look under Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

The stop in Sorrento was sort of an afterthought. The way the flights were it made more sense to return to US on the 1st of May, adding a day to the trip. I already had all lodging reserved so just made one change at the end of the itinerary.

Thanks for your replies! I thought there was,a separate rail station in the town of Fiumicino apart from the airport... ?

I thought there was a station in the town of Fiumicino as well, but checking Trenitalia and Bahn.de I see nothing.

You can easily stay in Roma and take a cab to the airport if your flight is early, or take the Leonardo Express from Termini to FCO if your flight is later in the morning or in the afternoon.

Can you amend your Maiori booking?
If you are looking to add Sorrento I'd lean towards 2 nights, 25-27th and then Maiori 3 nights, 27-30th. From here to Salerno and Rome by train. Otherwise I'd look at all 5 nights in Maiori.

I'm curious why you chose Grottaferrata? Are you not intending on spending a lot of time in central Rome?

I looked for lodging a little on the outskirts of each town because my husband did not want to stay in the middle of tourist hub bub. We plan to take in the sights on our own time and have plenty of time for rest and taking in the local flavor. Thanks for all the comments. . We have a lot of options!
