RAIL STRIKES

We have read in the books that there are often rail strikes, and maybe even bus strikes, where for a couple of days nothing is moving. Does that happen often, and if so, how does it disrupt things?

In all of our travels are various times of the year over the past 18 years we have hit only one train strike. Our feeling is that they do have strikes but it is very random and we will deal with it when it occurs. Only had to deal with it the one time by taking the bus. If I cannot control it, I do not worry about it. Cannot control rail strikes so I don't worry about them. Been OK so far.

They were suppose to strike a couple days ago ... Signs were posted and hotel staff was warning all guests. When the time came for the strike to start, the trains kept coming right on time. Not sure what the deal was but we got to where we were going just fine.

"there are often rail strikes, and maybe even bus strikes, where for a couple of days nothing is moving." This is an incorrect statement. Trenitalia has agreements with the unions to keep trains on most routes running. It's the law. True there may be less trains but they do still keep on running. They don't shut down the system. Still, you could have a ticket for a train that is not running. Check out this link to Trenitialia about this subject. http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=4e0f331438dea110VgnVCM1000003f16f90aRCRD
