FYI. There is a rail strike scheduled in Italy for Jan 26 and 27. The office workers go on strike Jan 28.
Plan your travel within Italy accordingly!
I wouldn't necessarily count on the strike happening. When we were in Italy last fall we were dismayed to hear that there was a strike scheduled just for the day when we needed a train to travel to Cinque Terre. The ticket agent told us to show up anyhow, that the scheduled strike might not happen, and he was right. The trains travelled just fine that day and that week, much to our relief.
I was in Florence planning to travel to Venice when there was a one day strike by all transportation this past November. Most regional trains were canceled but apparently there is a law that a few trains from the major cities that must run, Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan. So we were able to get to Venice as we originally planned.
