What does it cost to take the train from Rome to Florence per person? We are going to try and go point to point on the train all the way from Rome to Paris France but wanted some idea of cost for tickets between some different towns.
Next stop would probably be Dijon France...cost from Florence? The schedules are so complicated to read.

For travel within Italy use the trenitalia site:
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD
You just enter the towns you want to visit, a date within the next few months and it shows the schedule and fares. They don't change much so even if they aren't your specific dates you still can see the price and how many trains run a day.
From Rome to Florence will take from just over an hour to 3 hours, depending on the train and cost from 28 euros to 44 euros. The faster the train the more it costs.
You might want to fly from Florence to Paris as the train will take about 12 hours.
Donna
Okay, will try that.
Thanks
Donna is correct that there are a couple of classes of trains between Rome and Florence. The faster high-speeds are mostly non-stops with the journey taking 100 minutes. Fare 44Euro. The IC train takes 1hr. more but costs 28Euro. Then there's the Regionale. Same tracks, lots of stops and takes just over 4.0hrs. Fare is 16.10Euro.
For Florence to Dijon, I would suggest looking into the Artesia train runs. They make this run. I know that you can't buy these tickets on the Italian Trenitalia website as they don't accept U.S. credit cards. You might be able to buy the Florence/Dijon ticket on the French train website. Plus, if you book close to 90 days out, you can get a very good discount. Tim from Minot might know if you can buy this run originating from Italy on the French train website. I know you can do it if the run originated in Dijon. I just don't know about the other way around.
