I saw in another thread someone mentioned using "tickitaly.com" to buy tickets for many attractions in Italy. I checked ticket prices for one place (Uffizi) and the price seemed much higher than what I had expected (as compared to Rick Steves Italy 2013 book). Does "tickitaly.com" jack up prices dramatically? Is it like a Ticketmaster in the US that has massive service fees? Does anyone recommend using it?
Tickitaly.com seems to be a ticket broker, which adds a commission to the ticket price. I used a similar company a couple of years ago when I bought a lot of different tickets and didn't want to deal with each site individually. It depends on what the convenience is worth to you.
It's actually worse than Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster adds fees, but they are the official ticket seller, so you can't do better except by going to the box office (for a Broadway show, for instance). But Tickitaly is a reseller, so they're the equivalent of buying a Broadway ticket through Broadway dot com; they add fees ON TOP of the Ticketmaster fees. Tickitaly promotes the convenience of getting everything through one site. If you can handle using different sites, and if the sites are working correctly (which seems to be erratic for Italian sites), you can get better prices. But, just as with Ticketmaster, there can still be fees; they'll just be lower.
