I need to know the actual dates in September 2014 for this event and would also like to know how to purchase tickets for it - in advance if it is possible.

I did a google search and found this. It's from 2013, but if you take some time and use Google Translate, you can probably find the dates for this year and how to buy tickets.

The official web site offers a brochure in multiple languages but Prenotazione biglietti looks like it's only in Italian.
