Quick trip to Pisa, luggage storage question

Hi -

My future wife and I are headed to Italy in late December 2014 for our honeymoon. After spending a few days in Rome we are headed to Florence on Jan. 1, 2015. We would like to stop in Pisa on the way, just for a few hours before getting to Florence in the early evening. Here is our question: Has anybody used the luggage storage at a Pisa train station? Is it a locker situation or do you check it at a desk? We are hoping to check our bags at the train station, wander around for a couple hours then hop on another train to Florence.

If anybody has any experience with this, please let me know.

Thanks for your time.

Pisa is not along the way from Rome to Florence.
To do what you say, you would need to take the longer way through the Coastal route, then change in Pisa to go to Florence. That will add about 3 hours to your trip.

It's up to you, but it might be better to visit Pisa as a day trip from Florence (one hour each way by train)

To answer your question, yes, there is a luggage storage place at the station. 'Deposito Bagagli'

Several years ago, we were planning on using the lockers at the station, too. However, they were remodeling the station and and no lockers were available. We dragged our luggage around and were still able to see the major sights. They should be available for you as I don't think that they remodel that often!

I was there in September and used the Bag Storage. The station was still under some renovations. The bag storage was a staffed location near the back of the station. They keep your bags on racks. Pay attention to the hours of operation.

Roberto has some great advise, do Pisa on a day trip from FLorence and you don't need to use the bag storage. High speed train from Rome to Florence. Then you can take a train from Florence to Pisa when you want to do the day trip.
