Quick Trip to Lake Como – Questions on Where to Stay, Luggage Storage, and Ferries

Hi everyone!

I'm planning a quick trip to Lake Como for the first time with my family, and we could really use some advice. We’ll be arriving by train from Lugano and are hoping to base ourselves near Varenna, since we’d love to visit Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio.

We're short on time and will only be spending one night in the area.
1. Are there any towns near Varenna that are not too pricey where we could stay for a night?
2. In Varenna, are there any options for luggage storage so we can explore freely?
3. For the ferries between Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio – we only have a couple of hours before we need to drive to Lake Garda. Would you recommend the slow ferry or fast ferry for this short window?
4. Lastly, are there any budget-friendly boat tours that visit all three towns?

Any suggestions or tips would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For less expensive lodging, try Bellano or Menaggio. Menaggio is on the central lake ferry route and is across the lake from Varenna. Bellano is not on the central ferry route, but it is just the next train stop from Varenna. You can store luggage at the travel agency at the Varenna train station, assuming they are open when you are there. There is a fee, but I don't know what that fee is. Look at Taxi Boat Varenna for a one hour boat tour.
