My daughter has a flight today to Rome out of Newark on TAP going through Lisbon. She has just been informed that her 6:05 pm flight has been delayed to 3:15 am tomorrow. The connection is on time so she will miss that. They say it is the only flight today. She was supposed to arrive in Rome at 1:00 pm on the 26th and connect with the rest of our family so we can go on to CT. She will likely miss that unless she can get an earlier flight. Does anyone have any suggestions or strategies?
I've no experience with these things but did she ask if they might be able to get her on one of their codeshare partner airlines? Air Canada (one of TAPs codeshare partners) looks to have a flight to Rome FCO at 5:15 PM. It's probably a long shot but maybe worth the question?
Interesting that United has one at exactly the same time!
I agree, they should be able to get her on a codeshare partner, and she needs to call immediately, because lots of others on that delayed flight will be doing the same. Tell her to be firm with them (not rude) just firm that she needs to be there on time.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
Mimi
TP 104 with scheduled departure at 6:05pm is now showing "canceled".
Her best hope is to get on TP6793 (code share operated by UA 64) departing EWR at 8:15pm.
She will get to LIS at 8:20am tomorrow, a couple of hours later than the original flight, and TP832 to FCO departs at 9:00 am (therefore giving her a very short connection time).
However she should definitely be able to catch the later flight TP842 departing LIS at 2:50pm and arriving at FCO at 6:40pm.
It might be too late to go to the Cinque Terre though, unless you have a car. The last available train to the Cinque Terre departs at 7:41pm from Roma Ostiense.
If the above airplane change works for her, and you still want to get to the Cinque Terre that same night, rent a car at Rome airport as soon as you know that she could only make the 2:50pm flight from LIS to FCO and when she arrives pick her up on the curb and drive straight to the Cinque Terre (4 hours). You can return the rental car at La Spezia the next day when they open the office, unless you want to keep it for the rest of your trip. That's how I would do it and it won't be more expensive than the train if there are several of you sharing the car.
I think I would look for a flight to Pisa from Lisbon. Pisa is the closest to CT. Its probably too late now to change plans. In traveling, stuff happens. Coordinating a group is tough.
She should be asking the airline how they can get her to ROM by 8/26. She should ask if they can rebook her on another Star Alliance carrier or through another city. Sometimes it helps to find an alternative flight yourself and ask the airline if specifically if they can rebook/endorse your ticket to that airline (e.g., Say "I see there is a flight connecting in city on airline at x. Can you get me on that?") They are more likely to do this with a partner airline. Be polite but persistant. Never yell at the agent. Keep negotiating. You should be on the phone now.
