Hi Christine, my husband and I are traveling to Italy for the first time and landing at FCO. It is good to hear that your check in was easy. We are staying in the Pantheon District for a few days. Can you tell me the cost of the taxi to your place of stay? Thank you!

Italy in June-
As Dario has posted it is a fixed rate 50 euros.
Just be sure you go to the OFFICIAL taxi rank outside the terminal.Follow the signs.
Do not go with anyone who offers you a taxi before that line. It is quick and simple- get in line, wait your turn, hand the driver your hotel address on a piece of paper and a 50 euro bill. No need to tip.

Thank you very much! I realized you were leaving Rome and checking into FCO -- which is still good news.

Do make sure your taxi is an official one and do make sure there are no other passengers in the taxi. Your taxi should be for you alone. Sometimes a driver will try to take more than one set of passengers and then over charge the last drop off as "It took me longer so you owe me more."

I have only had that happen once and a phone call to his company solved the issue, but you don't need any extra hassles after arriving on a long flight.

We contacted our hotel in Rome ny email and they were happy to arrange private FCO transport for flat rate of 60 euro (regular taxi rate is 50). Our driver will meet us at arrival gate and help with luggage. (We did this before and had no problem at all - convenient and relaxing after the long flight.) No tip needed, but drivers appreciate cash since they don't have to pay credit card fees that way. We bring 300 euros with us even though there are plenty of ATM's in Italy - just sometimes not when or where you need them. Oddly enough, Italian post offices usually have ATM's in them.
