I have read recommendations from RS gang for these two restaurants. What is the price range for these places? (I checked online to no avail.) Would you take a well-behaved grade-school child to these restaurants? Ambience - casual, fancy? Grazie!
(I apologize if this question appears twice. My computer encountered an error as I was submitting this.)
I only know La Zucca. Haven't been there for a while but recommended it to friends and they liked it so much they went twice during their short stay in Venice. Prices are moderate, ambience casual. Lots of choices on the menu, including big salads. The child should be fine.
Haven't been to La Zucca (but heard it's wonderful) but we dined at Rosa Rossa 3 times this past August. It is definitely casual and the restaurant has a modern, hip vibe (if that makes sense!). You might look at their web-site as well as the pictures on Trip Advisor if you want to get a sense of the ambience. I definitely saw kids dining with their parents there, so you can absolutely take your child. As for the price range, I just looked back through my pictures because I took a picture of part of the menu so I could remember what I ordered (because I enjoyed it SO much). My husband ordered monkfish and the cost was €20,50 and I ordered a wonderful ravioli dish that cost €14,50. They also had a steak dish on the menu for €25 and several other pasta dishes (lasagna, gnocchi, spaghetti, etc.) in the €12-13,50 range. We thought the prices were very reasonable especially given the quality of food.
I'm not sure what time of year you'll be visiting Venice but you will probably want to make reservations, especially for La Zucca. The night we wanted to dine there, we couldn't get a reservation. As for Rosa Rossa, we had a reservation one night but the other two times we ate there, we just walked in and were seated fairly quickly (but we also tended to eat a little earlier than most Italians do so we probably beat the rush). Enjoy.
